Leviathans Story Pack
Leviathans was Stellaris’s first story pack, and it’s aged remarkably well — Guardians (including the Enigmatic Fortress), Enclaves, and the War in Heaven mechanic are all still core parts of a typical mid-game today.
What’s actually in it
Guardians are powerful, stationary encounters that guard valuable rewards behind a real combat or investigation challenge — a template later expansions have built on repeatedly. Enclaves give you persistent NPC factions to trade with outside of normal diplomacy. War in Heaven turns Fallen Empire relations into a galaxy-shaking event if you’re unlucky (or lucky) enough to be nearby when it triggers.
Who should buy this
Almost everyone. At its price point, Leviathans adds a disproportionate amount of mid-game texture for a relatively small cost, and none of it requires understanding a complicated new government or ascension system first.
What's Included
- Adds Guardians — powerful stationary encounters (including the Enigmatic Fortress) guarding valuable rewards
- Adds Enclaves — independent trader/mercenary/artisan outposts you can deal with
- Adds the War in Heaven event, where two Fallen Empires can go to war and drag the galaxy into it
Pros
- Guardians like the Enigmatic Fortress remain some of the most memorable mid-game content in the base experience
- Enclaves add a persistent, low-commitment way to trade resources and information
- Cheap relative to its impact on the mid-game
Cons
- As one of the oldest DLCs, some of its content has been partially superseded or expanded by newer expansions
Is It Worth It?
This is the oldest DLC on this list and still one of the best value-per-dollar — it's the origin point for a lot of what makes exploration and the mid-game interesting (Guardians, Enclaves, War in Heaven). Very easy recommend.
